the sunday nook {a harvest moon}…

full moon

there is something so wholly delectable about today’s nook that even though the sun is shining & i should be linking to deck chairs by the water’s edge, i feel compelled to bring you this instead…

hanging proudly like a harvest moon in a cloudless sky, the simplicity of this ‘art’ only adds to the intrigue of this nook…

layer in some staggered height tables & a sheepskin upholstered lounge chair juxtaposed with the sleek lines of a simple concrete floor &, for today at least, i’m ready to forgo to feeling of sun on my skin & bask in the moonlight just a little longer…

the sunday nook {john rocha}…

john rocha

fashion designer john rocha’s holiday home in the south of france is an essay in simplicity…

as this pared-back nook proves, a light touch can go a long way with some carefully chosen furniture & accessories…

simple pieces with fabulous lines & smattering of texture really is all that’s required…

the perfect escape, no?

{ps: happy mothering sunday one & all}

the sunday nook {too much heaven on my mind}…

the jesus lounge

forgive me for i have sinned: i’ve been a little over-indulgent in my ecclesiastical pursuits of late & have church conversions on the brain…

i’ll repent later, i’m sure, but for now at least do feast your eyes on this beauty…

this lovely nook, which i fondly refer to as the jesus lounge, has my interest well & truly piqued…

though i’d not considered it before, i’ve discovered i’m not entirely averse to introducing a little modern, masculine edge into my places of worship…

& this plump, leather lounge seat juxtaposed with that expanse of delicate lead light windows is just the thing…

i dare say i’d be forced to make a few tweaks here & there {coffee table out, some well-placed greenery in}, but the bones are decidedly good, no?!?

{ps, stay tuned for more posts on this conversion later this week}!

the sunday nook {the simple things}…

elle decor espana

happy sunday morning to you {not often i get to actually say that!}…

it looks like another glorious day outside my window, but i’m going to keep a jumper at the ready just in case as i’ve learnt looks can be deceptive sometimes…

today’s nook is the perfect hang-out for someone as indecisive as me: a little indoors, a little outdoors…

& more & more it’s the simple spaces done well which appeal to me…

there’s no pageantry or pretentiousness in this nook, just some well-placed seating, oodles of ventilation & a sunny outlook…

the sunday nook {let’s go outside}…

a sunday nook

i’m back & what a glorious {relatively-speaking} sunday it is to relaunch the sunday nook…

in honour of the sun showing its face, i’m taking it outdoors today & simultaneously proving that you don’t need big bucks to live big…

this nook is about as simple as it gets, but oh the joy to be derived from hours & hours spent right here with a cool drink & a damn good book…

sadly the closest i’ll get to recreating this look is a couple of el cheapo fold-up chairs in the local park {yup, we’re those people}…

not quite the same thing, but i’ll take it!

happy sunday to you all & welcome spring: stay a while!

the sunday nook {a cook’s kitchen}…

kitchen cravings

it’s home-made pizza in this household tonight {he makes the sauce, i make the dough}!

so i think today’s sunday nook really has to be a fit-for-purpose kitchen…

& this one is ticking all the boxes…

firstly, there’s more than room for two wannabe chefs to simultaneously showcase their skills: a large & easy-clean preparation surface is essential for rolling out that dough whilst a multi-burner stove-top leaves plenty of space for oversized pots of bubbling sauce…

the overhead task lighting is ample & beautiful & that floor looks like it could be relatively easy to clean {a distinct bonus as we’re a little bit messy}…

& then there’s plenty of room at the nearby table should friends unexpectedly stop by to sample our wares {ok, i know, friends never call in unexpectedly in london, but if they did those bottles of wine would come in handy}…

but the best bit of all? all of that glorious {hidden} storage up there at the back in which to stockpile our reserves of home-made passata…

yes, i think this nook will do nicely, despite the obvious pizza oven oversight!

the sunday nook {all aboard}…

orient express

what a difference a week makes: this time last sunday i was soaking up blue skies & today i’m cranking up the heating {again}…

i’m thinking it might just be time to escape all this craziness & today’s sunday nook is arguing the case for decamping really rather well…

i’m one of those rare birds who often enjoys the journey as much, if not more, than the destination, so clambering on board the orient express for a few days/weeks/months sounds a lot like pure bliss to me…

especially when the dining car {where, let’s face it, i’d be basing myself for 95.2% of the journey} looks like this…

imagine whiling away the hours over a leisurely lunch in this lovely nook whilst watching the world pass on by: how decadent!

so, are you on board?

the sunday nook {daylight}…

sunny spot

can you feel it? that ever-so-subtle change in the air…

the stretch between bouts of turning the heating on is slightly longer & the layers of clothing required for outdoor ventures is that bit lighter…

i’m sitting on my sofa enjoying the absolute last strains of sunlight at 5.30pm on a sunday…

& it’s glorious, because i know it’s a sign of what’s to come…

at times like this i’m rather envious of this nook: the perfect sun trap…

a wall of glass, a comfy chair, a stash of reading material & a side table big enough to house my cup of tea…

most importantly, this feels like home to me…

the sunday nook {moroccan dreaming}…

shimmering moroco

if the blustery weather outside wasn’t making you dream of distant shores, one look at today’s nook should seal the deal…

simplicity, serenity & a smattering of shimmer are the key ingredients here…

a clever use of texture & pattern negates the need for vibrant palettes: instead oversized pom poms, geometric tiles & a beni ouarain rug conspire to stimulate the senses…

a simple fireside nook & a stunning metallic upper-mantle complete the magic…

i know where i’ll be dreaming of tonight…

& you?

the sunday nook {forest floor}…

manhattan brownstone

in keeping with my new-found favourite colour feast, i bring you today’s nook which just so happens to also be perfect for soaking up the last of the long winter nights in…

days are getting tantalisingly longer & soon enough we’ll be breaking out of our self-imposed chrysalis & singing the praises of spring…

in the meantime i advocate enveloping ourselves in some sultry shades {think of those most commonly found on a wintry forest floor}, unfurling a throw or two & kicking back in some suitably atmospheric surrounds…
