so apparently this happened…

blogbadge-voteforme!

sometimes on my wanderings through the world of design it becomes embarrassingly apparent that i need to actually check my emails more regularly…

because if i had, i might have known sooner that i’ve actually been nominated for this!

many thanks to the team at amara & to all who participate…

much love!

i’m sorry, don’t hate me…

so, april came and went without so much as a “hello, how are you?” around these parts…

i blinked and spring, my favourite season, was virtually all but a distant memory…

the past several weeks have been a blur of recurring flu {3 times a charm}, impending client deadlines & general state of knackeredness…

thank goodness for instagram, if for nothing more than to remind me that april & early may also meant:

back soon….

hello two zero one four {i think we’re going to be friends}…

a nomadic abode_london

hello & belated new year greetings…

after two months away i’m now easing back into london life & desperately trying to hold on to the jetlag that’s promising to make those early work starts next week all the smoother…

as much as i love travelling, visiting family & rekindling distant friendships {& i do}, i equally love that feeling of arriving home…

8 weeks of non-pottering in my own abode is a long time for this pilgrim…

& now, keepsakes, presents & purchases abroad have been duly unpacked & distributed throughout the home, bringing with them happy memories & layering my home with even more meaning…

a nomadic abode_keepsakes

from a vodka-infused bottle that formed part of a wedding bomboniere & a cheeky polaroid selfie with a bestie, to a souvenir my sister & i picked up nearly 30 years ago on our travels which has now been ‘borrowed’ from my mum’s house & sits pride of place on my mantel…

a nomadic abode_gypsy

elsewhere some gum nuts help bring a little australiana to my abode & a copy of sibella court‘s gypsy {a gift from a dear friend that knows me oh-so-well} sits proudly on display, whilst a nearby array of cooking pots anxiously await their first session in the kitchen…

yes, it’s good to be back…

to be honest, 2013 wasn’t the best of years for me, but by no means was it the worst either: regardless, i’m thankful it was, but i won’t miss it…

there was a bit of heart ache, a dolloping of hard work & lots of lessons…

early on i foolishly listed my 3*6*5 for 2013 where i challenged myself to choose from a veritable smörgåsbord of achievements…

i failed {big girly style}…

turns out a lot of those challenges just weren’t realistic & not because they were unattainable or foolish, but because they weren’t aligned with where my life is at right now: the aimless wandering of my youth is currently on hold to kickstart a new career, money is tight & free time even tighter…

but the experiences & lessons i got to enjoy in place of those i’d listed proved even more invaluable {funny how life works like that}…

last year i enrolled in two very different design internships which challenged, rewarded & ultimately put my career on the right track…

a nomadic abode_livingetc

the first was at livingetc magazine where i got to experience the dizzying pace of editorial, attend my first ever styling shoot & see my name published in one of my all-time favourite magazines ever {october’s ‘disco fever’ shoot, in case you were wondering}!

the second internship was at a renowned design studio, russell sage studio, wherein i immersed myself in the land of enchantingly bonkers, timeless & intriguing design {this is also the role i will be resuming next week, although now in a freelance capacity}…

i hope to give you the skinny on both of these internships a little more one day soon…

2013 also saw my boyfriend & i successfully achieve our plight to do more, see more & generally enjoy life just that little bit more…

old friendships were revisited & new ones formed…

there were two trips home, four new baby boys {not ours, i hasten to add} to welcome into the world & innumerable memories made…

we undertook our, now annual, pilgrimage to london’s sundance film festival, delighted in a series of outdoor films & plays under an obliging summer sun, took in exhibits & concerts alike & challenged our minds & our hearts to expand…

there was dancing in our seats to the beat of the buena vista social club at the royal albert hall, we were enchanted by the magical surrounds of colombe d’or, mucked-in at pamplona & spent a glorious summer exploring parts of the uk that, up until now, had alluded us…

& finally, we capped the year off by submitting our elusive house plans to council {fingers crossed please} & celebrating a ‘bush’ christmas with our respective families…

this year, who knows what lays ahead: my sole aim for 2014 is to live in the moment & enjoy wherever it is life takes me…

no lists, no muss, no fuss {lesson learned}…

i wish nothing more & nothing less to each & everyone of you…

hello two zero one four {i think we’re going to be friends}…

lately…

grand entrance

i’m thinking this entrance way is pure perfection…

making an entrance

i keep coming back to this image & thinking maybe black double doors to my master bedroom would be pretty special {especially if i can sneak some brass door knobs past the boyfriend}…

& i’m not only being drawn to earthy palettes with soft feminine touches, but i’m also growing more & more in love with pattern…

the find {dining room nook}…

a nomadic abode

i wish i could say with any modicum of truth that my eye is so finely trained that i can instantaneously isolate what’s missing from any given scheme by simply throwing a cursory glance in its general direction: sadly i cannot…

for if i could, it wouldn’t have taken me several months of painstaking chopping & changing, switching out & rearranging to finally create a console area that feels worthy of its prominence in my home…

a nomadic abode

turns out all it really needed was a chance acquisition of a £2.50 woven basket from a local op shop i stumbled upon this week…

its soft curves & generous dimensions break up all the angles which were making the scheme feel too static, the texture & pattern brings visual interest whilst the neutral palette ties in nicely with other key pieces around it…

wise words on a monday {but what if?}…

keep calm

this is how i felt today…

rebel that i am…

i’m on week two of an exciting, but particularly challenging adventure & the battery runneth low {no doubt from all that running around like a chook with its head cut off}…

i’ll try & pop back later this week, but until then feel free to join my gang: break the mould & go berserk!

{ps, i will be back with my new home inspiration series next monday}

office bound {conducive to working}…

my kind of office

happy bank holiday all!

turns out the sun did make an appearance in blighty today afterall…

sadly for me i’m having a day of desk duties & am wishing my current office was as conducive to working as this beautiful nook…

take a simple palette, layer on those textures, throw in a heap of contrast {rough & smooth, shiny & matt} & you really can’t go too wrong…

on another note: apologies i won’t be able to bring you this week’s update of my new home inspiration series today, but i’ll be back with that on wednesday after a short blogging break & it will most definitely be worth the wait: it’s the one about the dressing room/walk-in robe debate!

in the meantime, in case you missed them the entrance & master bedroom inspiration posts are here & here

enjoy the sunshine!
