i’d like to thank the academy {liebster blog award}…

it's never too late

today i’m going to give some long overdue thanks: some, ‘i can’t believe i didn’t put this out there before’ appreciation…

months ago {oh the shame in typing that}, the lovely doris from interior novice contacted me & let me know all about the liebster blog awards which are given to encourage & support new & upcoming bloggers…

& i was genuinely thrilled to learn she had nominated me for one such award! well, my blog that is…

the sting {& the reason it’s taken me so long to respond} is that there’s rules: to qualify i must…

1. answer 11 questions doris asked me about myself
2. post 11 random things about myself
3. nominate another 11 up & coming bloggers and create 11 new questions for these bloggers to answer {no ‘tag backs’ are allowed}… phew, exhausted just typing that!

so, without further ado…

1.  doris’ questions for me:

What is your favourite day of the week? sunday: it’s the day of doing nothing & i’m mighty good at doing nothing!

What is the weather like outside your window? miserable one second, marginally better the next… ho hum!

Who is the most inspiring person in your chosen industry/field? i couldn’t possibly pick just one, but off the top of my head here’s five to start with: ilse crawford, abigail ahern, paola navone, sibella court & glen proebstel {i love pretty much everything these people do}

What is your favourite piece of furniture in your home and why? in my current home it’s probably the sofa because it’s the size of a small ship & can hold two somewhat comfortably…

What is the first thing you do when you get home? shoes off & kettle on the boil {sometimes simultaneously}!

What is your favourite food? chocolate: with a side of chocolate…

What is your favourite colour? it used to be green, but i’m gravitating towards blues {teal, peacock, inky, etc.} more & more each day… whenever i find myself particularly drawn to an image, it usually has a big, healthy dolloping of blue in it!

Do you prefer dresses or jeans? to be honest, these days i’m mostly about skirtage… long, flowing maxi skirts that hide an abundance of flaws… if i didn’t have the aforementioned abundance of flaws i’d probably wear jeans…

When do you blog? completely randomly: midnight, midday, 3am, daily, sporadically, invariably variably!

What was your favourite subject at school? drama & english… probably no surprises there!

What’s your favourite tv show? currently it has to be ‘breaking bad’… i’m obsessed… forget the plot line, it’s the characters that have me hook, line & sinker: i seriously have to stop myself careering around the neighbourhood yelling out ‘yo bitches’…. oh, & on a separate note, of course i have to give a huge nod to satc too which has my undying affection even all these years later!

2.  11 random things about me:

mixing malteasers with hot salted popcorn is one of my all-time favourite food combinations * i love the beach best on moody, overcast days * old ladies on buses like to sit & chat to me uninvited {not entirely sure if this is a good or a bad thing, but it happens a lot} * i lived in quito, ecuador for 4+ months to study spanish, but my spanish still sucks! * my current feverish obsession for lighting overtakes that which the average girl reserves for shoes! * i cut my own hair {it’s wonky as all hell, but because it’s curly i can just about get away with it} * my boyfriend thinks i’d make a great police officer {can’t for the life of me figure out why!?!} * i think i was born about 100 years too late {i would have loved to have been an intrepid explorer of faraway, unexplored lands} * i’m hugely impatient {so perhaps it’s best that explorer thing never happened} * when i build my own house i’m gonna have a pantry the size of a football field {just because} * i often make up words… not intentionally… i just do!

3.  nominate another 11 up & coming bloggers

now, here’s the thing: this is the part where i’m meant to nominate a further 11 bloggers & send them my own list of 11 questions…

but, because i’m a little minx & all, at this point i’d like to mix this up a little… instead of writing 11 questions & nominating a further 11 bloggers, i’d just like to shout out to 11 bloggers whose work i appreciate on a regular basis {ps, i have absolutely no idea how big or small the following for these blogs is, i just like them regardless}…

106 kids… effervescent chi is one of the first fellow bloggers i encountered out of the BYW course… chi is like a ray of sunshine & her blog is too… it’s beyond exciting to watch chi in the founding stages of developing her own children’s fashion label… like her label, chi’s blog is about quality over quantity!

sang the bird… a fellow australian, lovely leah has a passion for the simple things & reading her blog reminds me to focus on what’s most important in life: family, love, wellbeing, & the making of memories… visiting leah’s blog is like going for a cuppa with an old & dear friend: heart warming!

tamara maynes… speaking of lovely countrywomen, tamara is a self-proclaimed new craft raconteuse… her work graces the pages of australia’s cult interiors magazine ‘insideout’ & i love checking out her blog to find what new cool craft she’s either developed or discovered…

abigail ahern… often madcap, sometimes frenzied, but always informative… abigail’s eponymous blog is the place to go for daily doses of design inspiration for those wanting to think outside the bland box… there’s never a dull moment here & i dare you not to be tempted to move to the dark side once you’ve visited!

insideology… a fellow ahern-afficionado, annie has a way with words… not only can she make the seemingly mundane really rather fascinating, but this girl gets about {& i mean in a good way}… looking for somewhere to escape for the weekend? ask annie! want to know where to eat, shop or simply soak up some magic in london? ask annie! i have my next 6 months worth of staycations already sorted!

concrete & honey… without doubt, this is one of the prettiest blogs you’re likely to come across… it’s unashamedly girly, but such a great place to stop by for some fresh, happy eye candy… nicola is a flower fanatic like myself, so it’s no surprise that this one makes the list…

i like want need… erin is a funny, funny girl {funny haha, not funny weird}… this sweet little francophile draws you in with her fantastical tales of paris, gary oldman {she met him, you know!} & her endeavours writing la novel! mais oui!!! if you never knew baguette-scented candles existed, but wanted to, this is the place to go!

colour living… sometimes i’m exhausted just reading what tina at colour living has been up to… follow her, if you can keep up, as she dips & dives around greater london on her trusty steed, the vespa… you’ll actually never guess the places she turns up, the people she meets & the stories she has to tell! as a bonus, tina is one of life’s lovely ‘connectors’…

style by emily henderson… emily henderson is a mad woman… i could end this story here, but it just so happens that emily is an even madder stylist… not only can she style the bejesus out of a room, but she doesn’t mind sharing her tips & tricks of the trade too… i love this blog because emily is one of life’s over-sharers in the very best of ways…

bitten… fay’s posts are relatively new to my blogging radar, but i’m already smitten! this lady is sassy with a side of cool… i love how her eye finds the more unusual, quirky & sometimes downright naughty… her unconventional approach & rock chick sensibilities are right up my alley!

getting it swoon-worthy… there seems to be no end to the reserves of kimberly’s passion for interiors {a trait i know & love}… her boundless energy comes shining through not only on her blog, but in her ever-evolving home which she shares abundantly & beautifully with us all therein… this is a happy, creative little hive & somewhere i always feel right at home visiting!

so, there goes…

i hope you don’t mind my bending the rules a fraction, but i figure it isn’t often we actually take the time to not only sing the praises of other blogs, but to also explain why it is we keep going back for more!

who’d make your list & why?

saying goodbye {the mill}…

a quick read for a sunday night that i just stumbled upon & had to share…

it’s a story about the love & loss of a home & all that it embodies…

quite simply this post over at amy merrick’s blog, an apple a day, is not only poignant & beautiful, but most importantly it is heartfelt…

and having read a few more of amy’s recent posts, i think i can quite confidently say i’ve found me my new favourite blog…

happy sunday!
