stick a squirrel on it {alex randall}…

a change of pace today…

after a couple of days spent trying to right the world’s wrongs i’m in the mood for a little whimsy!

& these lights seem to fit the bill rather nicely!

alex randall‘s taxidermy lights are a playful, modern twist on a long-practised artform…

not only that, but they seem to meet with what she describes as a growing “desperation to reintroduce character to our homes”…

& whilst these furry critters will no doubt divide the masses & bring out the animal lovers & eccentrics amongst us alike, fear not: no animal has been harmed for the specific purpose of creating any of these lights…

you may remember alex’s squirrel wall lights from the riding house cafe where these pesky rodents enjoyed free rein over the wood-panelled walls casting pools of light in their wake…

i love the sense of good old fashioned eccentricity that they bring to this space…

but if fur is one step too far, you might want to consider a feathered light instead?

alex’s table lamps come with a side of pigeon or duck!

it’s important to note that all of the taxidermy samples alex incorporates into her work are humanely-sourced…

even so, i can appreciate that these lamps won’t be to everyone’s likings…

so, if you’re somebody who likes their quirky without a side of dead, then perhaps alex’s bakelite phone lamps are more to your taste…

these award winning lamps were the first design created by alex & are made using vintage bakelite telephones & updated with a flexible arm & LED bulbs…

i think these are barmy & brilliant fun & would make a great little addition to an entrance or even bedside table…

you can check out all of alex’s collection here, or rockett st george & the mint list stock a selected range…

  1. I’ve not heard of Alex Randall so thanks for the introduction Sue. Eugh to the squirrel lights, that’s really gross. However, don’t they look cool against the blue background? x

    • haha… i’m in two minds… i think they look amazing… but i’m not sure how i’d feel about having one in my house… i always thought i was kind of ok with taxidermy so i’m surprised at my own reaction!

  2. Sorry I’m going to have to pass on the taxidermy lights, I can just imagine freaking myself out in the middle of the night etc. The phone is pretty cool though. xD

i'd love to hear your thoughts...
