that pesky tenth commandment…

in the words of oprah, this much i know is true: coveting thy neighbour’s worldly goods is wrong {ish}…

but sometimes i just can’t help myself: ever since i saw this photo over at sfgirlbybay recently, i can’t stop thinking about it…

this started life as an innocent polaroid snap of aunty ethel & her cat posing amongst the roses {confession: i have no idea if indeed this lady is an auntie, nor whether or not her name is ethel… & no, i cannot be certain that the cat is indeed hers either!}…

after being salvaged from a flea market by victoria, this image has now been given a second chance at life albeit as a bigger, better, blown up version of its former self…

& there is something so very innocent & charming & endearing about this snap that i’m positively enamoured…

maybe it’s the simplicity of the subject or simply because it represents a time of supposed innocence…

or perhaps, just perhaps, it’s the weatherboard house & its neat row of lovingly-tended roses which transport me back to my own youth & our family home…

regardless, i’m hatching a plan to recreate this look in my own home, but my options are limited: i either hitch a plane ride to sunny san francisco, track victoria down & steal her picture in the still of the night, or i go forth & use it as inspiration to reinterpret my own memory of yesteryear…

so, that’s just what i’ll do: as soon as i’m back home later this week i’m raiding the family polaroid archives!
