the colour green {a colour for any year}…

is it just me, or does anybody else take umbrage at the thought of having a colour of the year thrust upon them?

it’s just as well i happen to love emerald {pantone’s selection for 2013}…

but, as it happens, the colour green in all its glorious manifestations has for a long time held prime real estate in my heart…

of course being so abundantly featured in nature doesn’t hurt this colour’s popularity one little bit, particularly not for a nature-loving girl like me: in fact its omnipresence makes it one of the easier colours to live with long-term…

it’s also incredibly versatile in that it can simultaneously energise & renew whilst calming & promoting a sense of well being: i like a colour that works hard for its living!

i’ve recently found myself pinning quite a few rooms featuring various degrees of green…

catherine martin

this decadent number invokes memories of yesteryear with its gatsby-esque motifs: the somewhat muted palette skilfully counteracts the abundance of pattern on pattern…

sibella court

whilst fresh is indisputably best in this new york loft, where a panel of vintage floral wallpaper brings the outdoors in…

emerald chairs

for this dining room it only takes the merest hit of the hue du jour to instantly elevate & energise…

sixes&sevens

similarly, one healthy dolloping of colour is all that’s required to cast its spell over this cosy retreat: here a bottle green banquette grounds the space whilst inviting refuge in its deep, murky depths…

baixa house

& a light-handed sprinkling of pale mint serves to further refresh & invigorate an already light-filled apartment…

the greenery

but if, like me, you can’t get enough of the colour, you could always consider combining it en masse to make the most of its envy-inducing powers…

  1. I don’t do fashion of the year, colour of the year, nada of the year. I couldn’t care less what Pantone comes out with, it’s another way to get everyone to be like sheep!!!

Now, the carpet in the first pic is incredible, so is the deep green banquet and the chesterfield(ish) velvet green sofa, Swoon!

    • me too! i really do object to being told what’s in & what’s not… especially so some corporation out there can reap the financial benefits! the rug is by catherine martin… amazing, amazing, amazing… part of her new deco range!

  2. Me! It’s ridiculous and nothing more than a marketing ploy.

Ah Catherine Martin and Timorous Beasties. My favourites! I nearly got that CM wallpaper for my hallway.

Love that room with the green sofa and the exposed brick. Lovely!

  3. The last two years have been such weird choices, Honeysuckle and Tangerine Tango if I’m not mistaken? I like emerald, but I’m basically allergic to any color that isn’t black, white, tan, or gray. I’m excited to see where this emerald trend goes. It’s more luxurious and elegant than Honeysuckle, certainly.

    • welcome doris! i love this colour too… i think you’re on the right track with the velvet or wool suggestion! 😉

i'd love to hear your thoughts...
