the sunday nook {larder}…

does anyone else find the cold weather makes them positively ravenous?

imagine all the midnight snacks you could harbour in today’s sunday nook, the walk-in larder…

i remember upon moving into our first home together how my boyfriend & i collectively laughed out loud when we discovered the pantry…

it was positively capacious: long enough to stand 4 or more people end-to-end, but narrow enough that if you stood in the middle & splayed your arms you could touch the walls on both sides…

the tardis, as we lovingly called it, not only housed more shelves than you could poke the proverbial stick at, but also a filing cabinet & a butler’s sink for good measure {there was also a hole in the corrugated roof through which you could see the sky, but that’s by-the-by}…

suddenly i’m not laughing anymore… in fact, i think it’s the most sensible thing i’ve ever seen in a house, much like today’s example…

row after row of narrow shelving allows for easy access, whilst the floor-to-ceiling storage means precious real estate is fully utilised…

baskets make for a great solution to veggie storage & jars of all sizes accommodate pretty much everything else…

add some attractive, but functional, lighting & a simple runner & this ultra-functional nook is suddenly all the lovelier to linger in too…

at last i’ve seen the light & it’s not through a hole in the ceiling!

  1. I would love to be that organized. We don’t have a larder (or pantry, as we call it here) but I would love the extra storage space for the basics. And who wouldn’t want all those rows of neatly arranged glass jars??

i'd love to hear your thoughts...
