mirror image…

barely 24 hours ago i was boring the grey hairs off my mum’s head with my grandiose plans for the flat which included, for no particular reason other than i love it, the notion of a bar…

but not just any bar: a repurposed shop counter with glass votives, vintage crystal decanters, flowers &, the crowning glory, a giant ‘peacock’ mirror {which i have long since coveted} hanging smack-bang directly above it…

i’ve reworked my hastily thrown together moodboard ever so slightly in order to give you a sense of my vision…

fast forward to this evening when i finally had chance to peruse rue magazines‘s latest edition…

there featured across a seven page spread are the magazine’s new san francisco headquarters: an airy & fresh space featuring touches of zebra, leather &…

wait for it…

a table-top bar resplendent with… you guessed it, a glorious, jaw-droppingly beautiful ‘peacock’ mirror…

well i never! how rude!!!

but i have determined that instead of changing my plans or feeling pipped to the post, i shall instead rejoice in the knowledge that the extraordinarily talented team behind one of my favourite online mags share my vision for the perfect bijou bar…

if the vase fits…

today, for the briefest of moments in time, i thought i had at last evaded the clutches of atelier abigail ahern

on each & every prior visit i’ve found it impossible to resist the lure of their wares, but not so today: i flitted past the florals, resisted the call of the porcelain parrots & afforded but a cursory glance towards the sweetly-scented candles…

even after doing my compulsory second lap of the store {in case i missed something on the first circuit}, i came up empty handed…

& so it was as i stepped onto the pavement sans purchases i felt a wave of victory & pride wash over me… at last! hoorah!

then i got approximately 50 metres down the road, doubled back & snagged myself this smoky grey glass vase…

& it’s the perfect vessel to house some fresh green & white flowers i already had on hand {though i happily admit my inspiration for the arrangement came from here}

what do you think? fleeting madness or a fruitful second thought?
