the bronze medal…

this post should be called “packing avoidance” because that is exactly what i’m doing… you know when you’ve done about 60-70% and it’s the awkward dribs & drabs {& the kitchen stuff} that remain? well, i’m there… wollowing in it… languishing… where the heck am i going to pack that curiously-shaped tea pot? how will i ever find a way to stow my fake flower collection without their heads being irreparably squished beyond recognition? why did i buy so many long stemmed wine glasses when i prefer to drink the stuff out of a water glass? these and other questions abound…

so forgive my ramblings today… as they’re going to be just that… idle ramblings…

like about this lamp

…which i’m trying desperately to commandeer my boyfriend into buying for my birthday as it’s currently on sale and, combined with a voucher i have, it’s more than 30% off which virtually makes it a crime not to buy! he says i have too many lamps… i refer him to the postings of abigail ahern: style guru extraordinaire and patron saint of the humble house lamp…

can i be honest? i didn’t really love this lamp at all when i first saw it… in fact, i found it rather grotesque… but it has now grown on me to a point where i fantasise about it being the crowning glory in my soon-to-be new lounge room… oh, how it will dazzle and, ermmm, cast light and form magical shadows and somehow make this into the flat of my dreams {oh, and in my head i already know exactly where it’s going to go!}…

it will also go rather nicely with a few other little bronze pieces i seem to have gravitated towards over the years like this lambskin cushion from nordic elements

and this tealight holder from niki jones

and my prized vintage leather club chair {ok, she’s more tobacco-coloured than bronze, but…}

which i posted about here

oh, and a bronzed canvas i made my mum lug all the way from oz which i have yet to add some finishing bronze touches to… do you see the theme? do you?…

but back to the lamp… this beautiful lamp {which, for any boyfriends reading, can be purchased here using a voucher currently residing on our coffee table} also forms part of my newly-emerging decorating philosophy wherein i’m leaning towards fewer, bigger show-stopping pieces over multitudinous, small “dust gatherers”… this notion has been further crystalised by my current packing process which has served to highlight exactly how many dust gatherers i have accumulated over the years…

mmmhhh… which reminds me… time to get back to some packing… avoidance over…

speak soon…

  1. Sue you are so funny! I love the not so subtle hints you dropped to your boyfriend about that lamp. That really is a special lamp, he’d be crazy not to take advantage of that voucher and buy it for you. I love how cozy that little nook of yours is. Good luck packing! It’s a pain but just remember, it will all be over soon.

  2. Ouch that’s even more expensive than a porta romana lamp! Very nice indeed though and clearly your style. Let us know if the bf picks up the subtle hint……

    I really love those tealight holders,I’ve been eyeing those up for a year. Perhaps I should just take the plunge.

    • take the plunge… yes, the lamp… mmmh… price is a bit ridiculous but i’m going for bigger is better these days… you know, a statement piece rather than 3 little pieces… not sure it will be under the birthday tree though! bf doesn’t take kindly to hints 😉

i'd love to hear your thoughts...
