the sunday nook {abigail ahern}…

given it’s been such a splendid summer’s day here in blighty, let’s make the most of the fading light & stay outdoors for our sunday nook…

anyone who knows me knows that i have long since been bewitched by the enchanting world of interior designer abigail ahern… she tantalises & delights with trickery & tongue-in-cheekedness, & i’m pleased to confirm that her particular blend of wizardry is not limited to the indoors…

i call this nook my midsummer night’s dream!

it is magical, inviting, seductive & enticing & positively everything your home should be… inside or out!

better still, this lounge blurs the line between the two zones through the clever combination of some everyday techniques which even us mere mortals could adopt:

ambiance is achieved through a medley of light forms: table lamps sit proudly alongside an oversized anglepoise, fairly lights festoon a distant mirror & the flickering flames of candles & an open fire conspire to intoxicate… set high, low & everywhere inbetween, the magic is as much in the illumination as it is in the shadows…

whimsy banishes formality & warms the heart: who doesn’t love an illuminated moose head or a perpetually-perky parrot {not to mention a friendly penguin & a pretty poodle}… but if animals aren’t your thing, any item with humour or quirk can cast an equally-mesmerising spell… like abigail, play with unexpected scale & seductive forms to amp the intrigue up a notch…

colour, the friend of every interior & out… this nook’s predominantly muted hues & restful neutrals are punctuated with an unexpected jolt of brilliant blue {you could of course choose any colour}… the result? it sedates & bedazzles, calms & tantalises all at once!

texture is like a long-lost friend: it wraps its loving arms around you in a sweet, welcoming embrace… abigail has combined slubby woollen cushions, flocked lights & pom pom fringing {finishes normally confined to indoor spaces} with cushioned upholstery to cocoon & caress…

which brings us nicely on to comfort… let’s face it, without it what’s the point… here a formation of sink-in-able loungers lull you into a dream-like state… is there any better way to be?

i for one am positively spellbound!

    • hi leah… not so secretly i love the moose head too! i have seen this garden in photos so many times, but when i saw it laid out like this it really did take my breath away! am desperately searching for a garden flat so i can recreate my own magical version! haha… how’s that winter going?

    • you will love every second of being in her home & i’m so jealous… even though i’ve been, i went before the “design school” opened & i’m dying to see that classroom! this garden makes me pine for home where i’ll have the space to create my own magical outdoor room!

  1. Funny that we’ve sat in her garden isn’t it?
Look at Abs all glammed up wtih make up on! She looks quite different.
the garden was very summery when I was there, white chairs. I love all this dark blue, it’s very eveningy isn’t it. I think we should make her host a dinner party for you, me and Sam, her most devoted followers. We’ve all said enough nice stuff about her so it’s only fair.

    • haha… yup, bet she’d love to have us around! i positively adore this garden & i’ve always wanted a secret garden with a fireplace… and even years ago in rental homes i’d be out there staple-gunning fairy lights outdoors… the mood she has captured in this particular setting just takes my breath away… it feels like home!

i'd love to hear your thoughts...
