given it’s been such a splendid summer’s day here in blighty, let’s make the most of the fading light & stay outdoors for our sunday nook…
anyone who knows me knows that i have long since been bewitched by the enchanting world of interior designer abigail ahern… she tantalises & delights with trickery & tongue-in-cheekedness, & i’m pleased to confirm that her particular blend of wizardry is not limited to the indoors…
i call this nook my midsummer night’s dream!
it is magical, inviting, seductive & enticing & positively everything your home should be… inside or out!
better still, this lounge blurs the line between the two zones through the clever combination of some everyday techniques which even us mere mortals could adopt:
ambiance is achieved through a medley of light forms: table lamps sit proudly alongside an oversized anglepoise, fairly lights festoon a distant mirror & the flickering flames of candles & an open fire conspire to intoxicate… set high, low & everywhere inbetween, the magic is as much in the illumination as it is in the shadows…
whimsy banishes formality & warms the heart: who doesn’t love an illuminated moose head or a perpetually-perky parrot {not to mention a friendly penguin & a pretty poodle}… but if animals aren’t your thing, any item with humour or quirk can cast an equally-mesmerising spell… like abigail, play with unexpected scale & seductive forms to amp the intrigue up a notch…
colour, the friend of every interior & out… this nook’s predominantly muted hues & restful neutrals are punctuated with an unexpected jolt of brilliant blue {you could of course choose any colour}… the result? it sedates & bedazzles, calms & tantalises all at once!
texture is like a long-lost friend: it wraps its loving arms around you in a sweet, welcoming embrace… abigail has combined slubby woollen cushions, flocked lights & pom pom fringing {finishes normally confined to indoor spaces} with cushioned upholstery to cocoon & caress…
which brings us nicely on to comfort… let’s face it, without it what’s the point… here a formation of sink-in-able loungers lull you into a dream-like state… is there any better way to be?
i for one am positively spellbound!
