snapshots from the weekend {san sebastian: part one}…

we’re back… & our little whirlwind trip to san sebastian, spain is now but a happy memory…

four days of sun, sangria {for my mum & my man} & taste sensations in the form of perfectly-formed pintxos…

& to top things off this sunny little corner of northern spain is pretty easy on the eye too!

a hop, skip & a jump away from its nearest neighbour, france, this sprawling municipality hugs the sandy beaches of the picturesque bahía de la concha, a crescent-shaped bay nestled in the embrace of the surrounding hills…

& while a sense of calm & serenity prevailed, i got the distinct feeling this seaside city was only just reawakening from a deep, self-induced sleep…

with each passing day more & more signs of life emerged: bus tours & blue-rinse brigades started to appear, at first in trickles and then in droves…

& the sport of sun worshipping gained in momentum as fleshy white flanks began to fill the prime bathing spots…

beyond the lure of the beaches, there are some beautiful sites to behold in san sebastian… contrasts between old & new abound: from the 18th century baroque-style santa maria church ensconced in the back streets of the ciudad vieja {old town}…

to the modern monolithic apartment blocks that sweep along the length of the esplanade & beyond…

young & old alike are catered for… from sea-front amusement rides to tree-lined plazas dotted with benches from which to watch the world pass by…

& for those with a slightly more adventurous spirit, leisurely hikes up hillside paths reward your efforts with glimpses of history… &, of course, amazing views…

  1. I’ve never been but my sister and my mom went a few years ago and had a blast. Everyone that I know who has been there just loves it – so jealous of you!

i'd love to hear your thoughts...
