voyage of discovery {martyn thompson}…

just time for a quick scurry through some online magazines tonight, and i came across this über cool dude, photographer martyn thompson {thank you est magazine!}…

and it’s about now that i ask myself ‘under which rock have i been lying for the past umpteen years’ and ‘how is it possible i have never heard of this style god’? {my shame is only heightened upon learning he is also a fellow aussie – well, it was his adoptive home for a time}

& if these photos are anything to go by, martyn’s home appears to be as cool as the man himself…

as if the fact that he’s based in new york & lives in a soho loft isn’t enough to seal the deal, check out this pad…

i mean, come on… this artwork gallery alone is enough to make my heart beat faster: the moody colourways of sepia & inky blues, filtered by a hazy wash that lends his photography a nostalgic and almost other-worldly quality…

& this understated living space isn’t half bad either… i’m loving the simplicity of these linen curtains & the way the cool curves of the coffee table and chairs juxtapose nicely to the gridded formation of the bookcase & patchwork rug… it all just seems so effortless, but cool nonetheless… just how i like it!

like the rest of the apartment, this artwork features predominantly muted shades which are interspersed with unexpected vibrance & colour…

& an ever-present air of nostalgia is evident throughout…

not just in the sludgy palettes, but in the worn patinas too…

be sure to check out the full dose of loveliness in est magazine‘s latest offerings {issue 5} & if, like me, you need to know more about this man, you can check out martyn’s own online portfolio here

this little gem of a find really has made my day!
