the sunday nook {fireside}…

today we visit the olde bell, a coaching house in the village of hurley, & this cosy nook curated by one of my all-time favourite interior designers, ilse crawford from studio ilse

this is definitely on my list of places to stay &, when i do, i’ll be sure to give you the full run-down… but for now, let us breathe in the beauty of this perfectly-formed fireside nook…

whilst sympathetic to the building’s history {parts date back to 1135}, this retreat has been given a modern facelift… tactile materials such as linens & raw wood interplay beautifully with the existing exposed brickwork & ceiling beams to create a rustic yet elegant feel {not an easy combination to get right}…

a scattering of carefully-selected furnishings {including the obligatory wingback chair, a crudely constructed table & the angular backenzahn stool} combine with a muted palette to keep the look fresh & uncluttered… the result: a relaxed & inviting nook where texture & warmth abound…

all-in-all this is definitely somewhere i’d be happy to snuggle-up in any old day of the week…

  1. LOVE LOVE LOVE this place! We went there for bf’s birthday two years ago (we didn’t stay, they were fully booked) and had a picnic in the garden and dinner in the evening. It was perfectly wonderful. Try the Crown in Amersham too, part of the same group and also lovely. Featured in Four Weddings x
